1:09PM - From the Bookshelf
I thought one purpose for this blog would be to highlight interesting books I have read recently, either fiction or nonfiction. This time, I have a couple of nonfiction offerings:
The first, is Peter Bowerman's The Well-Fed Writer. In this book, commercial freelancer Bowerman shows you step by step how you can be one too. The fact that he's from the Atlanta area, like myself, gives him extra credibility as far as I'm concerned, as does his thorough analysis of his subject. He gives the good with the bad, and doesn't smother you with the same writing as get rich quick scheme like Writer's Digest and other publications. It's just enough so that I actually think I can make a go at this, at least part time.
Also, one of my writing clients, Brian Hilliard, sent me a copy of 101 Internet Marketing Tips For Your Business, and it's chocked full of good information. Not so much for my own use, but I can use it to expand my existing knowledge base and suggestions for potential clients. Davidson really gets away from the hype and false promises that highlighted many corporations' first forays onto the Internet, and talks about good and bad things to do with your Website, especially if you are an entrepreneur.
That's it for now. If you have any books you'd like to suggest, just drop me a line or post a reply, and I'll mention them here. Anything goes: writing books, science, gonzo, science fiction. Anything.
